We asked Stacey Weiss, Executive Director of Bert's Big Adventure what is the biggest challenge the organization is currently facing: "Growth is definitive one.
Bert's Big Adventure is currently on it's 10th year and once a family is selected they remain part of the organization.
I have kids that started with us when they were 8 years old and are going to college this year. We are looking for ways to help them get scholarships."
"As an organization we face many challenges. For example with the economic recession many of our families have lost their homes because they are straddled with medical bills. It breaks my heart and I wish I could find a way to help them," explained Weiss.
Bert's Big Adventure has been blessed with wonderful sponsors. "We always reach our fundraising goals every year" said Bert Weiss.
Bert's Big Adventure expanded their services and are now offering "The Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program", sponsored by Carter’s Babies & Kids/Osh KoshB’Gosh.
This programs allows Bert’s Big Adventure families to be visited on a daily basis when their child is admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s) at either the Egleston or Scottish Rite campus.
A team has been put into place so that when the organization is notified that a child has been admitted, the head Fairy Godparent will schedule volunteer visits throughout the child’s stay.
These visits last approximately 1-2 hours. Bert’s Big Adventure will provide each volunteer with resources so that gifts, necessities and food can be provided on each visit. To become a "Fairy Godparent" all you have to do is go online and fill out an application.
