Video shows the impact of how adults talk with children The Atlanta Speech School, one of the nation’s most comprehensive centers for language and literacy, is calling for a change in the ecosystems of schools to encourage brain development and literacy. As part of this call to action, it has launched a compelling new video titled “Every opportunity,” which demonstrates how changes in adult behavior, both inside and outside of the classroom, can enhance a child's approach and her ability to learn. “Everyone a child meets throughout the day can make a difference – all the difference,” said Comer Yates, Executive Director of the Atlanta Speech School. “Every time a child is ignored, or yelled at or silenced, a teacher takes away what is possible. As the video exemplifies, each of these moments can be missed opportunities to empower a child and develop their vocabulary.”

Circus-themed pep rally recognizes third graders who excelled in reading achievements over past two weeks ATLANTA –  Feb. 22, 2016  – In celebration of a two-week Reading with Ringling competition that took place at Peachtree Elementary School, the entire third grade class will receive a special visit from  Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey ® ’s  famous clowns for a circus-themed pep rally on  Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 . Most notably, the pep rally will feature Sandra Deal, First Lady of Georgia, who will attend to congratulate the students on their reading accomplishments. Mrs. Deal will read University of Georgia football star Malcolm Mitchell’s popular children’s book, “The Magician’s Hat,” to students during her visit. The event’s state sponsor, the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE), in conjunction with The Children’s Museum of Atlanta , have once again planned an exciting kick-off for the week’s activities, which will be taking place in schools, libraries and businesses throughout Georgia.   "I'll be famous one day, but for now I'm stuck in middle school with a bunch of morons." Greg Heffley Last Sunday we took our kids to AMC at Discover Mills to watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I have to admit that I have been very curious about the content of this film. Diary of a Wimpy kid chronicles the adventures of wisecracking junior high student Greg Heffley over the academic year through his diary and hand-drawn cartoons. Diary of a Wimpy Kid has been the only book my 8 y/o have voluntarily read from start to finish (twice). Actually, this has been the only book he has "literally" beg on his knees for me to buy. Just like my son, kids all over the world just seemed to can’t get enough of the of the book series, written and illustrated by Jeff Kinney.
