Stories We Love: Nicholas House Gets A Dining Room Makeover #CraftingForCharity

Nicholas House a non-profit organization whose mission is to help homeless families achieve self-sufficiency by providing a temporary place to live received a Random Act of Kindness by Homes.com.

Known for inspiring consumers to dream big, Homes.com and ForRent.com have teamed up to launch a national program — “Crafting for Charity” — aiding organizations that provide transitional housing to families in need.

The project will revamp a much needed facility, hopefully inspiring residents to continue on the journey to self-sufficiency.

Homes.com and ForRent.com employees and design experts brought to life the famed Homes.com “Idea Gallery” with do-it-yourself renovation projects benefiting those who need it most.

The first stop on the Crafting for Charity tour was Atlanta, Ga., where the Homes.com and ForRent.com teams took the Nicholas House by storm, renovating the dining area to better serve residents spending time there.

The project included several do-it-yourself craft ideas, painting, new furniture, window treatments and more. The two-day effort wrapped up with an exclusive reveal party for residents and staff at the Nicholas House on Saturday, June 29.

“The Nicholas House works hard to make a positive impact on as many Atlanta families as possible,” said Wendy Froehlich, vice president of marketing.

“Homes.com and ForRent.com are honored to celebrate and share in that mission. This project is one small way we can help families get on their feet and live a full, prosperous life.”

The 30-year old charity – known throughout the Atlanta community for helping homeless families get back on their feet — was long overdue for an upgrade in the dining area.

The room, outdated and furnished with plastic folding tables, is an area where more than 50 residents gather to eat meals daily. A Homes.com design expert created the room’s design, which includes updated furniture, centerpieces for the tables, and an interactive wall art project featuring some of the current residents.

“Everyone gathers during meal time – it’s a time to share stories and create memories. Even though these families aren’t in a traditional home, we want them to feel comfortable and safe,” said Dennis Bowman, Nicholas House executive director.

“I’m extremely grateful to the Homes.com and ForRent.com team for giving this dining room a much needed update, providing a wonderful new space for our residents to spend quality time together.”

The Homes.com and ForRent.com “Crafting for Charity” initiative makes its next stop in Dallas, TX later this year.
