Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon Will Attract Thousands to Atlanta for Eighth Annual Running




Atlanta can expect more than 16,000 runners to hit the streets for the eighth annual Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon, produced and presented by Life Time, The Healthy Way of Life Company (NYSE: LTM), on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 7 a.m. The race course will travel through metro Atlanta’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills, Virginia-Highland and Midtown.  Along the way, runners will pass landmarks including the King Historic Site, Carter Center, four college campuses and Piedmont Park. 


Sunday’s events will feature 19 hydration stations providing water, Powerade and encouragement to participants along the course. Runners will also experience numerous cheering stations to keep their spirits high as they push toward the finish line. As part of the entertainment lineup, several live bands will be performing throughout the course and on the main stage in the finish line festival. 

Additionally on Sunday, the Luckie 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m.  The event will start and finish at Centennial Olympic Park and run through downtown’s Luckie Marietta District.  Participants can sign up online at www.georgiamarathon.com.

Publix Georgia Marathon race weekend will also provide enthusiasts a chance to receive health and fitness tips and purchase running gear at the Publix Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo held at the Georgia World Congress Center Friday-Saturday, March 21-22.

·        Publix Georgia Marathon Poster Design Contest Winner Revealed: Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., atSavannah College of Art & Design Atlanta.

·        Publix Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo: Friday, March 21, 2014, noon to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, March 22, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building A, Hall A2.

·        Luckie 5K:  Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta’s Luckie Marietta District.  The Luckie 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m.

·        Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon:  Sunday, March 23, 2014, starting at 7 a.m., from Marietta Street/CNN Building and finishing at Centennial Olympic Park.

·        Awards Ceremony: Sunday, March 23, 2014 with the Half Marathon Awards being distributed at 8:45 a.m., and the Marathon Awards given out at 10:30 a.m., from Centennial Olympic Park Main Stage. 

Last month, Life Time acquired US Road Sports and Entertainment Group, which produces both the Publix Georgia and the Michelob ULTRA 13.1 Marathon series (formerly the Allstate Life Insurance 13.1 Marathon). Life Time is now producing both Atlanta races as well as the Miami Marathon, The New Jersey Marathon, The Salt Lake City Marathon and others around the country.
